Nikon Z Lens
Nikon Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.8 S FX Autofocus Lens
The Nikon NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S is a native full-frame Z-mount short-telephoto prime aimed at portraits, people and selective detail photography. Its f/1.8 aperture offers substantial subject separation, while the fixed 85mm viewpoint requires more working distance than a normal lens.

Editorial buying guidance
Who this lens is most likely to serve well.
Best for
- Nikon Z full-frame portrait and people photographers
- Available-light detail photography with controlled backgrounds
- Buyers wanting a native S-line prime without the expense of an f/1.2 option
Why it stands out
- An 85mm full-frame perspective suits head-and-shoulders portraits and selective framing.
- An f/1.8 maximum aperture offers useful low-light flexibility and background separation.
- Native Z-mount S-line design avoids the extra adapter required by F-mount 85mm lenses.
Things to consider
- The narrower field of view can be difficult in small rooms or tightly packed events.
- The 85mm f/1.8 S is not the larger, costlier Z 85mm f/1.2 S; verify the exact aperture in each listing.
- On Nikon DX Z cameras, the framing is tighter than on full-frame bodies.
Compatibility notes
Native Nikon Z mount for FX full-frame bodies and DX Z cameras using a narrower crop. Do not confuse it with Nikon F-mount AF-S 85mm lenses.
